Chrome needles have long been the standard and are fine for most sewing and embroidery.

PD (Perfect Durability) needles have a titanium-nitride ceramic finish which makes them more wear-resistant than chrome needles. When embroidering large designs or very abrasive, dense or tough materials the needle points and surface will maintain its original shape and dimensions 3-5 times longer.

Flat Shank Needles for Home Embroidery Machines

These needles have a flat side ground on the shank to assure proper alignment with the point of the with the hook. For machines by: Bernina, Brother, Elna, Husqvarna, Janome, Necchi, New Home, Pfaff, Poem, Simplicity, Singer, Viking, White and more.

The Organ standard needle has a slightly larger eye than other manufacturers for the same diameter needle allowing the hobbyist to use a 75/11 needle with standard embroidery thread.

This is the needle that was developed for use in the Janome MB4. It is an commercial quality needle with a round shank, narrower blade, light ball point and oversized eye. The narrower blade causes less damage to the fabric, yet is strong and flexible for fewer needle breaks.

How do I read the packages ?

For example:
75/11BP PD
75/11 = the size
BP = Ball Point
PD = Perfect Durability (titanium)

2nd example:
75/11
75/11 = the size
There is no BP, so it is a Sharp Point
There is no PD, so it is a Chrome

Tips

1) Use the smallest needle possible that gives the fewest thread and needle breaks. For most items a 75/11 is ideal.

2) Ball Points nudge the fabric fibers aside rather than cutting them as sharp points do. Because embroidery places so many stitches very close together, it is safest to use Ball Points for most items.

3) Though sharps often cause holes in knits and loosely woven fabrics at corners and other places with short, dense stitches, they are a good choice for heavy or tightly woven fabrics or for stitching detail on top of fills.
